Je suis anthropologue et mène des recherches à la croisée de l’anthropologie du corps et de la santé et des Science and Technology Studies (STS). Titulaire d’un doctorat d’Anthropologie sociale de l’Université de Cambridge, j’ai occupé de 2011 à 2018 un poste de Maîtresse de conférences à l’Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon, avant de rejoindre le CNRS en octobre 2018.
Parmi mes publications récentes figure Plastic Bodies: Sex hormones and menstrual suppression in Brazil, paru chez Duke University Press en 2016. S’appuyant sur une ethnographie des circulations des contraceptifs hormonaux, le livre interroge plus globalement les pratiques corporelles brésiliennes en proposant de lire le corps comme éminemment plastique. Ce livre a reçu les prix Michelle Z. Rosaldo et Diana Forsythe de l’American Anthropological Association.
Depuis 2017 je porte un programme intitulé « Healing Encounters : Reinventing an indigenous medicine in the clinic and beyond ». Celui-ci examine ce que la guérison veut dire depuis la perspective de ceux qui pratiquent, reçoivent ou évaluent la guérison. Le projet étudie l’expansion frappante et les réinventions prolifiques de pratiques de guérison qui font usage d’un breuvage amazonien connu sous le nom d’ayahuasca. La globalisation sans précédente de cette médecine indigène offre une opportunité unique d’étudier les healing encounters de manière ethnographique.
